Now, if you might happen to be having some questions, here’s some answers to FAQ about eating mealworms

  • Are mealworms even food?
  • According to the US FDA (United States Food and Drug Administration), bugs/insects are considered food if that is their intended use.
  • What is the nutritional value of mealworms?
  • Mealworms have high contents of proteins, fats, vitamins and fiber. They are especially excellent sources of protein.
  • How should I store my mealworms?
  • Keep them in a cool and dry area outside of direct light. You may also want a glass jar so that other bugs do not get to them.
  • What do mealworms taste like?
  • Nutty like peanuts.
  • Should I cook my mealworms?
  • You don’t have to, as we’re selling them to you dry, but here’s a few ways to cook them anyway:
  1. Oven baked mealworms, make a neat crunchy treat. You can choose to season them however you wish, but just put them in the oven at 200°F for 1 hour.
  2. Pan-fried mealworms, when fried in a shallow amount of oil taste great with or without the right spices. Salt them and put them in salad, dip them in sauces like marinara or chocolate or use them as a substitute for nuts in cookies/cakes.
  • What if I don’t want to eat mealworms?
  • In that case, perhaps if you have poultry like chickens or ducks, you could give them to your birds instead. We have another page on this *here*
